Dr. Hima Bindu Lingam is a board-certified medical oncologist and hematologist with a career spanning nearly twenty years of clinical care, research, and service. Her work has focused on patient care, participation in oncology clinical trials, and improving equity in cancer treatment. She has worked in academic, private, and government healthcare environments, bringing her experience to diverse patient populations and always aiming to address disparities in care. As an investigator in more than 40 oncology clinical trials, she has contributed to research involving a wide range of cancer types and supported efforts to make clinical trials more accessible.
She has also provided oncology expertise beyond traditional settings through virtual consultations and pro bono second-opinion services for cancer patients in South Asia. By supporting patients in regions with limited resources, she helps bridge gaps in care and strives to improve access to advanced oncology services. Her South Asian heritage informs her patient-centered approach, which combines cultural awareness with medical expertise.
Her professional journey has included service in Southern California, Atlanta, and Washington D.C., as well as roles at the FDA, NIH, and VA. In these positions, she has balanced clinical work, regulatory duties, and research, contributing to the advancement of cancer treatment from multiple perspectives. Her responsibilities have included providing inpatient care, reviewing oncology clinical trials for regulatory agencies, and assisting in the development of clinical research programs.
Dr. Lingam completed her undergraduate studies in Biochemistry at Brown University and earned her medical degree from Meharry Medical College. Her postgraduate training includes an Internal Medicine residency at Tufts-New England Medical Center and a fellowship in Hematology/Oncology at Baylor College of Medicine. She has also served in locum tenens roles, ensuring continuity of care for patients in communities experiencing staffing changes.
She has held staff physician and clinical research positions at Compassionate Cancer Care Medical Group and taken on leadership roles in cancer research with The Southeast Permanente Medical Group. She has also contributed to collaborative initiatives with Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center and worked at Cancer Treatment Centers of America and MedStar Georgetown University Hospital.
